Transforming disconnected spaces into a unified desert landscape experience.

This residence is located in the upper canyon of the Silverleaf community in Scottsdale, Arizona. The home was remodeled to provide a more functional, usable, and dynamic backyard.

Given its elevation in the upper canyon, native plants were salvaged and relocated prior to construction. Infrastructure was carefully planned to access planters within the backyard and outer court.

Due to the formal Mediterranean character of the home, there are layered plantings in the interior outer court.

In the backyard that hangs off a cliff overlooking the city, there are multiple pots with seasonal color.

Desert-adapted low-water use plants were used in a more formal setting. Low-voltage lighting was installed to provide safe passage between these connected gardens. Native stone textures were used around the exterior to blend with the native undisturbed soils to preserve the beauty of the native hillside.
